State House, Banjul, 9th July 2025: His Excellency President Adama Barrow received the outgoing Swiss Ambassador, H.E. Andrea Semadieni, on Wednesday morning at the State House in Banjul.
The purpose of the visit was to bid farewell to the President upon completing his four-year tenure of service in The Gambia and to reflect on his engagements during this period.
The Gambia and Switzerland enjoy a long-standing friendship, sharing a common view on international relations and valuing the laws that govern them. H.E. Semadieni shared that this has been a positive period, highlighting cooperation in Transitional Justice, Security Sector Reforms, migration, and water projects. He further extended his gratitude to the President and the people of The Gambia for the hospitality and positive memories he would cherish.
President Barrow appreciated Switzerland’s support for The Gambia’s Security Sector Reforms by collaborating on capacity building for professionals in the sector and empowering them to operate within a democratic system. He also stressed the importance of partnership on irregular migration, urging Switzerland to add its voice for favourable cooperation.
President Barrow stressed the importance of the Transitional Justice program, stating, “We want justice and reparations, and supporting victims is key in the process.”
