The Medical and Dental Association the Gambia Tuesday, February 22 called on His Excellency President Adama Barrow at his temporal office at Kairaba Beach Hotel.
Shortly after the audience with the President, the president of the Medical and Dental Association The Gambia, Dr Abubacarr Jah, told the press that they were at the Kairaba Beach Hotel to discuss with the President of the Republic the country’s health system. He said they told Barrow their experiences and expertise, as well as their current plans.
“We are dividing ourselves into working groups, and looking at all aspects of health and then come up with a blue print, which we will share with the Ministry of Health once it is ready. This is to help give out our visions for the health system”.
Jah noted that some gains have been registered in the health sector and that what is needed now is to look at the structures, how the ministry runs, hospital runs, how they finance hospitals, how they work on universal health care coverage and affordable health care.
He stressed that their priority is on one of the developmental goals of United Nations (UN) which is called Universal Health Care coverage.
“We have regained confidence in the health care system of the country. It requires leadership and stewardship”.
